Our Foster Dogs and Experiences, Special Appeals

Beautiful Bridie

Hello everyone! Currently, we have the most gorgeous, snootiful princess staying with us – her name is Bridie and she is just delightful. So, I thought today I would take the opportunity to tell you all a little more about her! (Disclaimer: she is looking for her forever home so, if you want to avoid temptation, I suggest you stop reading now!)

Sadly, this lovely little girl has ended up in our foster care due to a rather nasty racing injury. A few weeks ago, I was lazily lounging on our sofa, with the equally lazy Niko lounging virtually on top of me, when the wonderful manager at the adoption kennels gave me a call. She explained that they had received a sweet female greyhound into their care and that she had a poorly paw, and consequently was limping quite severely. She asked if we would kindly come and meet dear Bridie, in the hope that we could potentially take her on as a foster dog while she received much-needed medical treatment on her injury.

Only two years old…

So, of course without hesitation, the next weekend, we jumped excitedly in the car with Niko in tow and headed for my ultimate “happy place” – the adoption kennels. There she was – sweet, two year-old Bridie – with her cow-girl fur and her poorly paw, which was clearly incredibly uncomfortable for her. Our kennel manager was right: this girl needed lots of fuss, TLC and minimal exercise, while the specialist greyhound vets figured out the injury.

Now she is at home with us and, in the short time already that we have had Bridie for, she has absolutely taught us so much, specifically about how to CHOOSE JOY! I have never met a happier, more affectionate and loving dog. Initially, she was incredibly timid and shy; clearly, she wasn’t too sure what to make of everything. But, with time and encouragement, she has quickly revealed more of her adorable, puppy-like personality and it is utterly addictive! What’s more: she appears to admire Niko and repeatedly will approach him and swiftly lick his face, as if to remind him that she is still here!

She adores being lavished with cuddles, kisses and, at times, becomes so excited to be with us that we must remind her about her poorly paw! During this time of lockdown and sadness throughout the UK (and the world!), Bridie is teaching us that we must make the best out of our situation – after all, if she can soldier on and be so happy when she is clearly in pain, then surely we can try our best to choose joy during these difficult winter months.

The mystery and investigation into Bridie’s injury continues, as there does not appear to be a break or a dislocation. However, we will be with her every step of the way and, before she knows it, she will be settled in the luckiest forever home there could be! More to come on Bridie soon… She is, quite frankly, remarkable.

Love and snoot kisses,

Berry x

  1. Oh, Bridie is gorgeous, Ash, and stunning in her fabulous coat. (By the way, Henry, our golden retriever, is so jealous that your beautiful dogs are allowed on your settees.) He definitely is not as he’s too big and hairy.

    1. This really made me giggle! Yes, living in a 2 bedroom flat, we felt it was fair to allow them up (and we do ourselves tend to like a Friday night family cuddle – so not sure if it is for our benefit or the dogs’!). Thank you so much for your support. She’s a beautiful dog!

  2. Poor Bridie, she is fortunate to have you all to love, nurture and help and support her! She looks a beauty and seems very at home with you already after a very short time! I wish her a speedy recovery and hope that she finds a lovely new home soon (that’s if it’s not going to be with you?? Haha) xxxx

    1. Thank you – we love having her stay! She can stay for as long as she needs to before she finds the most beautiful forever home, that’s for sure. A lovely family has been in touch, so watch this space! 🙂
