Snooty Interviews

Snooty Interview with Boris and Megan!

Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to post a snooty interview that I carried out with Boris the Greyhound and his lovely owner, Megan. Read on to find out about Boris’ story…

Name of your greyhound: Boris

Age of your greyhound: 5 years old

What was it that inspired you to take the plunge and adopt a retired greyhound?
My husband had been keen on getting a dog since we first moved out, but my family had never had pets as my mum was allergic, so I was never too bothered. However, my boss used to bring his greyhound, Lola, into work and she always seemed so calm and I used to think that if I ever had a dog, I would want one like that! We had just got married, so I thought why not have a look at the greyhound rescue centres!

What made you choose your particular greyhound?
The kennel manager chose Boris for us. We didn’t have a preference on age, colour or gender, but just said that we wanted a dog that was quite chilled and happy to be on their own for a few hours at a time and out came Boris!

What would you say was your biggest misconception that you had about the greyhound breed before you adopted one yourself?
I had never owned a dog before, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. I had been told by lots of people that greyhounds didn’t need much exercise, but I didn’t quite realise just how LAZY Boris would be! We do try to go out for 30 minutes or so in the evenings after work, but Boris would be happy with 10 minutes at the park, followed by heading home and straight back to his bed!  He does have the occasional crazy 10 minutes flying round the living room with his latest squeaky toy, but it isn’t long before he is laid back down again with his legs in the air for a snooze!

What would you say was your biggest challenge with your greyhound when you first adopted him?
It took a while for Boris to stop having accidents in the house. We knew he had always lived in a kennel and never in a house, so expected there to be an adjustment period, but for a long time I was coming home from work at lunch times and in the evenings to accidents in the front room! I certainly kept Zoflora in business for a while! But, in time, Boris got there.

How do you think you have changed as a person since adopting your greyhound?
I never really enjoyed going for walks, as I found them quite boring, but now I have Boris I love getting wrapped up and heading out in my wellies for a long afternoon walk at the weekends! I really enjoy the fresh air and it certainly helps to clear my head. I also love going out walking with my fellow greyhound friends every month, who I wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for Boris.

What is your favourite thing about your greyhound?
The chattering! I love it when I am giving Boris cuddles or ear scritches and he chatters his teeth really loudly – which is a greyhound sign of contentment – as he just loves all the fuss! In between chatters, he will also give me a cute little lick on the nose!

What would you like to say to anyone who might be considering adopting a greyhound?
Greyhounds have never lived in a house before and, for some of them (like Boris), it can take a little time for them to adjust! But you will have a friend for life – who will eat all of your ham and never let you sleep in your bed alone ever again!

Also, for anyone wondering what it can be like to have an adopted greyhound and a young baby at home, my experience has been positive. We were curious as to how Boris would react around a tiny baby as he’d never been around babies before. When we first brought our son home, Boris welcomed him with lots of friendly sniffs and was very gentle. We did experience a little jealousy which, if I’m honest, was to be expected, as Boris had been the baby in our house for almost two years! He also went off of his food for a while, but I think he soon realised the baby was here to stay and it didn’t take long for him to go back to normal! My son is now almost a year old and always looks for Boris and beams when he sees him. Boris will often lay down by his cot too, which is very sweet, and I’m excited to see their relationship grow as my son gets older!

Thanks again to the brilliant Boris and Megan!

Love and snoot kisses,

Berry x
