Our Foster Dogs and Experiences, The Greyhound Breed

How lucky to have found Lucky – the Parish Pooch!

Hello, everyone! Today, we are sharing a wonderful story, that makes us so incredibly proud, all about our gorgeous foster girl, Lucky. This sweet girl had been waiting for an awfully long time for her forever home, often being overlooked at the adoption kennels; however, now she has found the most loving home with her vicar parents and she is truly spreading luck and love around her parish! Read on to find out more about this remarkable snoot…

When they decided to adopt a retired greyhound, Lucky’s humans were hopeful that the one they chose would fit in well by ideally being a relaxed dog, who could handle being left alone when needed and be comfortable around a variety of different people. They needed a snoot who would fit in well with their social parish life!

Amazingly, it has been four months now since Lucky was adopted by Nathan and Beth and they say that she has already started to play a huge, important role in their working lives, especially Nathan’s. As a vicar, Nathan interacts with many different people across many different settings and he feels that Lucky has taken to it with complete and utter aplomb! He says that whether it’s joining him on his visits to the local care home, or accompanying him at his parish coffee mornings, Lucky is always a big hit with everyone she meets! Parishioners love to hear updates about how she is settling into parish life and they really appreciate her presence at church events. As Lucky is such an incredibly affectionate and gentle noodlehorse, she has a gorgeous, natural way of making others feel comfortable. Furthermore, if people are reluctant to chat directly to a vicar, her humans feel that they will happily fuss over sweet Lucky instead. Wonderfully, she has even been able to offer therapeutic snuggles with people, who have visited her vicar dad to discuss their tough times. What a superstar she is!

Helping her Ma with her parish work!

Additionally, Lucky has been busy visiting a local care home, alongside her dad, where she has truly demonstrated the beautiful ability to allow people to feel relaxed and interact with her. The residents can stroke and fuss her, and she remains gentle and curious. Her humans tell me that the residents will often reminisce over dogs they have had and will coo over her soft ears or brown eyes! Lucky also helps them reflect on their lives around Romford, especially as so many have connections one way or another with the greyhound stadium.

When catching up with her wonderful adopters, the last question I had was this: what would they say surprised them most about Lucky? The main surprise for them was just how affectionate she is. People rarely think of “affection” when they conjure up an image of a greyhound in their minds, yet they are truly such a soft-hearted, gentle breed. We are thrilled to hear how Lucky has gone from being an over-looked, timid dog at the adoption kennels to now a confident, nurturing parish dog, who are very lucky to have her indeed!

It’s a hard life being a vicarage dog!

Thank you to her fabulous humans for adopting her and giving her the space to thrive. (We reckon she definitely deserves the part of an angel in your Christmas nativity!)

Until next time…

Love and snoot kisses,

Berry x
