Snooty Interviews

Snooty Interview with Lucky and Nathan!

Hello everyone! Today, I wanted to post a snooty interview that I carried out with Nathan – one of the lovely owners of Lucky. Lucky was one of our beautiful foster greyhounds and was adopted by Nathan and his wife, Beth, earlier this year. The couple are both local vicars and always dreamed of adopting a greyhound, who they hoped would make a wonderful parish dog. Read on to hear all about their experiences with their special snoot…

Name of your greyhound: Lucky

Age of your greyhound: 3 and a half years old

What was it that inspired you to take the plunge and adopt a retired greyhound?
We had wanted a dog for ages, but decided to wait until we were settled somewhere and could give a dog the best possible life. Once we knew we would be moving to Romford, it was the perfect time to start looking for a furry friend! My wife, Beth, had previously owned a greyhound and loved the breed, as they are so calm and friendly, so we knew we wanted a greyhound!

What made you choose your particular greyhound?
Once our move was set, we started following the RGOA page (Romford Greyhound Owners Association). We saw Lucky on Instagram and knew we wanted to meet her! Everything about her little face stood out and she was described as having such a gorgeous temperament.

Once we met her, it was a done deal for us – we wanted her immediately. It was such a long month between her being reserved and her finally coming to join us in the new house, but we are so grateful to Ash and Jamie for fostering her so lovingly.

What would you say was your biggest misconception that you had about the greyhound breed before you adopted one yourself?
We didn’t really have many, as Beth had had a greyhound growing up and was familiar with many of their quirky little ways. Having said that, Lucky can be a very stubborn girl when she wants to be, which is mostly funny to watch! Whilst she is very, very good around human food and doesn’t beg, she can also be a bit of a scavenger with anything she finds at her height!

What would you say was your biggest challenge with your greyhound when you first adopted him/her?
Lucky was quite nervous for about a week or so after she arrived with us, but this soon gave way to the most affectionate and loving nature. We have been really fortunate to have not had many toilet accidents or sleep struggles; after two nights downstairs with her, she now goes to her bed quite happily come 10pm! We are still getting her used to the walks around the area, as she isn’t a lover of traffic noises, but once she knows she is bound for the park it is a struggle to keep up with her as she bounds along! She also is very fond of chasing pigeons and the occasional cat, which means we have to double check the garden before letting her out!

How do you think you have changed as a person since adopting your greyhound?
We both feel so happy knowing that we are coming home to her lovely face and the cuddles! We have adapted to our new routine and new responsibilities, and this is a change from before when it was just the two of us.

What is your favourite thing about your greyhound?
We know we are biased, but we think Lucky is the best dog in the world. She’s so affectionate and so friendly to new people. She is very calm generally (although she definitely has her springy, zoomy moments) and gentle with other humans and dogs. She does the biggest tail wags in the morning when we come downstairs and when we come home from being out – they are so sweet to see.

What would you like to say to anyone who might be considering adopting a greyhound?
If you are in the position to adopt a dog, look into adopting a greyhound. They are the most affectionate, goofy dogs with so much love and fun to give. They are a great match for people at all stages of life and can fit into most homes and routines without too much trouble. You won’t regret it!

Thanks again to the brilliant Nathan, Beth and, of course, Lucky!

Love and snoot kisses,

Berry x
